Kolkata: Civic’s covishield clinic and mega centers, which are closed for three days, will be reopened from Monday.
The decision was taken on Sunday after Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) received 30,000 doses of covishield during the day.
However, whether this covishield dose will take place outside Monday will depend on whether fresh supplies arrive on Monday and Tuesday.
The State Health Department has reportedly told KMC that many covishield will be available on Wednesday, August 11.
KMC officials said given the daily covishield requirements of 30,000 to 35,000 to feed 102 vaccination clinics and 50 mega in Kolkata, most expected that shares would dry on Monday itself.
“In that case, unless recharged earlier, the centers may have to be closed again on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Decisions will be taken based on supply on Monday,” an official said.
“As a supply of covishield doses improved in the last week of July, we allocated 200 doses for each of our covishield vaccination centers every day.
The mega center gets around 300 doses per day.
But given the current scarcity of vaccines, we need to drastically reduce allocations if we Want to maintain our clinic and the mega center open, “said a citizenship official.
The official, however, acknowledged that if the supply did not improve, the second dose backlog would reach an uncontrolled level.
“Currently, our backlog stands at a dose of 1.2 lakh.
We need to delete this as soon as possible.
But this backlog will grow at a faster level if we fail to feed our mega clinics regularly.
Further responses will make the situation Challenging for us.
We hope the next consignment of the covishield dose will be good enough to clean this backlog, “the official said.
According to the Ministry of Health officials, Kolkata has been allocated by 40,000 vaccine doses, which means the Covid vaccination center carried out in medical colleges managed by the government and hospitals will also get 10,000 doses of covishield.
The vaccination number in Kolkata on Sunday dropped because even 4,000 doses were given, and even were mostly given by private facilities in the city.
