KMC is looking for law to get a rickety building in Kolkata

Kolkata: In an effort to secure their lives living in dilapidated buildings, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) intends to obtain several high-risk structures for reconstruction.
The tenant will be given ownership rights when new buildings appear.
However, KMC will give priority to unsafe buildings where no owners are recorded.
The proposal, prepared by the KMC building department, was received by the Board of Administrators on Friday.
This will be sent to Nabanna for permission.
Once approved, it will be placed before assembly to empower the Civic body to get a dilapidated building for reconstruction.
The recent building of buildings collapsed throughout the city has pushed KMC to take such initiatives.
As the first step, the KMC executive engineer at the Borough level has been asked to identify such vulnerable buildings.
“We have started compiling a list,” said a KMC building department official.
The need for reconstruction of a very dilapidated building felt severe after the part of the tenant and the population of the Bobrak Building in the Burrabazar recently asked permission to repair the building because the owner could not be traced.
“Our tenants held an urgent meeting and agreed to improve the most vulnerable parts of our building to save our lives.
But because we did not enjoy ownership status, an appeal before the KMC building department was still delayed,” said Anil Sharaf, a resident of a dilapidated building in Rabindra Sarani .
Sharaf welcomed the Civil Initiative Restructuring Dilapidated Building.
“If it finally happens, we don’t need to hesitate to contribute anything we can depend on financial status,” he said.
Civic’s body specifically saw Bobpreded Buildings in areas such as Cossipore, Chitpore, Burrabazar, Cotton Street, Pathurieghata Street, Shyampur, Jorasanko, MG Road, Taltala, Amherst Street, Jalan Kidderpore and Lake, including an area.
