Kolkata: With Rabindra Sarobar remains out of limits for Chhat worshipers and amid concerns about massive meetings in Ghats Major along Hooghly, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Kuningan on Monday that approved the creation of four artificial pools to do rituals.
While these two pools will appear in tollygunge, the other two will be created in the Ballygunge area.
According to an official KMC Parks and Department Box, Kuningan Civic on Monday gave a nod to make four artificial pools for Chhath Devotees – one in Panditiya Road, Bamir Lane (Ballygunge), Dishapran Sashmal Road and Jhaldar Mathematics (Tollygunge).
These places are chosen because the environment does not have a natural water body.
These areas have a large concentration of Chhat worshipers, showing citizenship officials.
Over the next few days, the Civic body needs to send around 200 water tankers – each with 5,000 liters – to fill the four pools.
Of the four emergency pools, which will be excavated in the Tentultala Ground Off Panditiya Road will be the biggest.
Here, the KMC will help create a large reservoir while 65ftx45ft.
Three 30ftx25ft tankers will appear in other places chosen.
This initiative was first taken by Debasish Kumar in Panditiya Road in 2019.
Next year, Ballygunge Ward Coordinator Sudarshana Mukherjee replicated the idea and created an artificial tanker in Bamir Lane.
“Today, we have gained a green signal to dig four temporary reservoirs.
We will prepare this reservoir on November 9,” said a senior official of the KMC department.
Ngo has announced a ban on the Chhath ritual in Rabindra Sarobar in 2017.
But the ban was largely ignored that year and in 2018 regardless of local authorities tried to enforce it.
According to a KMC official, the Civic body faces the twin challenges this year because the fresh surge in Covid cases has made it mandatory for the Civic body to prevent a massive meeting in Ghats along Hooghly.
“We prepared our settings for worshipers with great Ghats but we need to motivate Chhath’s patlutes to utilize a natural pool or made artificially made their two days rituals starting from November 10,” said a KMC official who had been assigned to treat the Chhath Festival at Ghats Hooghly.
In addition, Great Ghats along Hooghly – Like Ahiritolla Ghat, Bagbazar Ghat, Baek Adamtolla Ghat and Doi Ghat – KMC will create more than 130 Ghats throughout the city around the natural water body for nursery Chhath.
