Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has increased Covid testing in areas that have witnessed bursts in the past two weeks.
After the initial feedback from the Executive Health Officer Borough, the KMC health department has decided to bring as many people as possible in the infected zone under the RT-PCR test.
The department has also launched a drive awareness in the infected zone to motivate residents whose doses of vaccination are still delayed.
According to a KMC health department official, they have a reason to worry about some environments in the Tollygunge-Jadavpur belt where the Covid case rose quickly.
The KMC health department also maintains a watch in areas located in Em Bypass because of its proximity to the Rajpur and Sonarpur regions that have recently become a Covid hotspot.
Going with Covid data, areas such as Azadgarh, Bijogerh, Dhakuria, Kasba, Lagajatin, Patuli, Garia, Nayabad, Mukundapur, Jadavpur and Santoshpur have witnessed burst after Durga Puja.
More than 60% of Covid City cases are currently reported from these areas.
However, KMC faces challenges in maintaining infection in the bay when they are tested positively from these areas mostly without symptoms.
Therefore, Civic Brass has decided to send Vans cellular collections to this environment, especially to market places, to bring more people under the test nets.
This is separate, the cellular swab collection van will also be available for resident housing complexes and apartment buildings.
A KMC Health Service official said that Van was told to take a round on the market in areas such as Azadgarh, Bijoygerh, Bansdroni, Garia, Green Golf, Patuli, Kasba, Garfa, and Dhakuria, among others.
“This is a market that has become a Covid hotspot during the peak of the second wave.
Now this environment is close to these markets not to mention showing the graph up.
We cannot take problems lightly and need our guards,” said the citizenship official.
Apart from increasing Covid tests, the Civic body has also asked KMC medical officers who run the vaccination center at the environmental level to start a large campaign in the infected zone to bring the second dose recipient to vaccination centers.
“We store extra doses for the second dose recipient who lives in an infected zone and is still hesitant to get their dose on time,” said a citizenship official.
