Kolkata: Several universities and universities in the city have decided to focus on a sign in two certain subjects regardless of the candidate course has submitted to raise the bar and make a kind of filter process without the acceptance test and personal interview to evaluate the talent of applicants.
To create a minimum feasibility criteria in competitive humanities, colleges provide additional weight in English.
For the flow of science, additional weight is being given to mathematics.
Several universities consider signs in these two subjects even to enter subjects such as Hindi, Bengali, Statistics and Economics.
The two main reasons for giving more weight on these subjects are to identify students who are more appropriate than thousands of applications and also because the council’s examination is canceled and students are evaluated based on signs on board X and the class XI annual exam.
At the University Presidency, Marks in Mathematics will form the main components in the calculation of academic scores (to prepare a list of public services) in subjects such as geography, chemistry, economics, statistics, physics and life science.
Likewise, the sign in English will be taken into account while calculating academic scores in history, performing arts, philosophy, political science and sociology.
“It is also a strategy to neutralize high scores in the board exam, calculations that are not too scientific,” said Head of Department at the Presidency.
At St Xavier’s College, the feasibility criteria for achieving a list of achievements are 75% of English and aggregate and 25% of individual subjects to take political science, sociology and mass communication.
In Bethune College, the minimum feasibility criteria in political science, history and psychology are 60% in English.
Candidates that apply in Bengali and Hindi also need 50% and 45% in English.
To apply for an economy and statistics, a candidate needs 65% in mathematics and 50% in English.
“This will help us in identifying candidates who are more appropriate for the subject,” said an official.
In Lady Brabourne, applicants need a certain percentage (varied from the subject to the subject) in English as additional requirements, except Bengali.
At the Scottish Church too, English and mathematics will form important components.
