Kolkata: City airport has opened an international courier terminal to facilitate express cargo permits from here alone.
This will allow direct exports and courier imports to be transferred through Delhi or Mumbai until now and need an additional two days on the way.
The 1,120 sqm facility is located next to the existing cargo terminal.
It has begun operating in a phase with a dedicated customs officer handling courier operations.
Terminals have dedicated XBIS, CCTV, ETD, handheld scanners and dedicated staff for fast and reliable processing of more than 6,000 tons courier couriers every year and will be managed by the Express Cargo Clearance System (ECCS) software – which allows without limits, without Contact and efficient mechanism for cleanliness of the courier customs.
“The operation of the international courier cargo is diverted mostly through Delhi which is used to delay shipping and at the same time hampering the business.
By the start of this facility, which will serve the complete East East India and the complete North East, will cut the transit time from the airport to the warehouse,” said Deputy General Manager Kolkata (Head of Cargo) Rahul Nandy.
“The previous courier permit was carried out only in Mumbai or Delhi which meant we lost almost a day in the permit itself.
Couriers must be lowered in the domestic terminal, then sent to international, where it must be cleaned before being included on the international cargo ship.
Sometimes there is sometimes The question and that means someone must fly from Kolkata to Delhi, “said Jetex Ocean Air Pvt Ltd Director Jaideep Raha.
This facility was inaugurated last week by M Ajit Kumar, Chair of the Tax Council & Customs (CBIC), CISF and other AAI officials.
Kolkata airport currently has a cargo terminal scattered in almost 2.5 lakh sqft.
With 13 truck docks and two airplane parking bays, this is the largest cargo terminal in the east and northeast.
“The launch of operations in Kolkata ICT will allow stakeholders to reduce their logistics costs and shorten the time taken for service provision,” Kumar said.
