Kolkata: One person suffered serious burns and about 30 stores reduced to ashes in a large fire in the mountain in the northern part of the city early on Sunday, the source of the fire brigade.
Fifteen tender fire against the fire for three hours to delay the broken flames around 2am, said the source.
Locals, who suffered burns while trying to evacuate and fight fire, in serious conditions, said source.
The fire first began at a roadside furniture shop in Satarupa Pally in Ktergtopur and did not take time in spreading to the nearest shops all at the hut, Sumber said.
Fire service Minister Sujit Bose rushed to the place, heard about the incident and supervised fire extinguisher.
Bose denied the allegations by the local population that the fire department arrived late and said rapid action by firefighters prevented a larger tragedy.
Local Mla Aditi Munsi also went to the place and talked to the affected family.
The sources of fire extinguisher said the fire was believed to have turned on by the LPG cylinder explosion in the store and because of the flammable material spread to other stores.
