Kolkata: 4,000 Police are on the streets of Tritiya

Kolkata: Pre-Puja Traffic Snarls returned to several bags of Kolkata as buyers and Hopper Pandal jostling with office traffic since Thursday night.
About 4,000 police will hit the streets starting at 4 pm on Friday as the Puja Durga celebration began in Tritiya towards the weekend.
The state has urged the committee for Tritiya or Chaturthi opening to cash the puja for the next eight days until the dashami ensures a physical distance.
Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee on Thursday inaugurated 18 South and Central Kolkata Pujas.
CM Banerjee repeatedly urged people to maintain the Covid protocol and use masks and sanitisers.

Abhishek Bhattacharya, Secretary of Tala Barowari, said the rush was such that they had to install extra barricades and asked people to return on Saturday after the pandal was inaugurated.
“We told them that it would be seen by everyone from a distance, and no one had to worry about barricades and fences.
We did not put it this year,” Bhattacharya said.
The police said special arrangements were made for “Choke Points” such as Rashbehari Avenue, Hatibagan and Tollygunge Circular Road.
Some areas, which have traditionally witnessed a lower number of pujas such as Woodrah Bridge Guard and Vidyasagar Traffic Guards, have transferred their people to manage the most crowded places of CR Avenue, HatiBagan, Rashbehari Avenue and DH Road.
