Kolkata: a 44-year-old Kolkata resident, a senior executive with Bharat Earth Movers Limited who was in ECMO support during a 90-day record, overcoming post-covid infections and complications and now returning home after fighting with a battle that lasted almost six months in three months hospital.
“The case of this patient is a very difficult.
Fortunately, the ECMO reference for Covid patients has dropped dramatically in recent months because we have a lighter case burden.
But because of the awareness among the medical communities about ECMO for heart and lung cases What is very critical, we have begun to get more non-covid patients, “said the Kunal Sarkary Surgeon, Deputy Chairperson of Medica Hospital which also headed ECMO.
According to his family, Mohammad Saadique Akhtar was first received at Ryod Nursing Home on May 1 where he was detected with Covid infection.
The 44-year-old child then shifted to the Apollo Hospital.
Even though he increased at first, he got Citomegalovirus infection as a post-covid complication.
Akhtar shifted to Medica on June 18 because he needed ECMO support.
“The patient is in ECMO support for 90 days, which includes 80 days of ECMO Venous for respiratory support and 10 days of ECMO support for the heart and lungs,” said ECMO Chakraborty Arpan specialist.
Patients suffer from two episodes of heart stop during care and have myocarditis, which require lung and heart support.
“We cannot thank Medica’s team, especially doctors of Arpan Chakraborty and Chatterjee in order, because of the type of care given to my husband,” said Akhtar Farnaz Nazli’s wife.
