Kolkata: ‘Adopt solar power, save electricity bills’

Kolkata: Electricity bills in Kolkata can drastically fall, if we adopt the cheapest solar power at RS1.99 per unit while the thermal power plant Rs 3.05 per unit, said Ajay Mathur, Director General, International Solar Alliance (ISA) and Energy Conclary Chamber of Commerce and Bengal Industry on Friday.
The man behind the global campaign, the world of Sun-One World-One Grid (Osowog), said that Bengal holds great potential with the abundance of sunlight for more than 300 days a year.
“Purulia pump storage is a model that can be replicated nationally that can do a miracle.
Using solar energy, water can be lifted to the tank during the day while at night, the same water can be dried to produce hydel-power energy,” said Mathur, which Is the Director General of Teri before becoming DG ISA.
