Kolkata: All 79 police stations in the city, including those who were very hit by fresh waves such as Bhowanipore and Kasba, have begun to receive complaints at WhatsApp to prevent people from clustered police stations.
Lalbazar has now provided each police station with a smartphone with a special number where local residents can file complaints and GDS by sending their complaints on WhatsApp.
They can also send audio messages as proof or to submit GD.
In addition, every photo that will be used as evidence can also be forwarded to this number.
All complaints sent via WhatsApp will be considered as filed and the police will visit the crime scene as needed.
In certain cases in more difficulties or queries, even calls on these numbers will be permitted.
On Saturday, two other IPS officers along with other Kolkata police personnel were tested positive for Covid-19.
A total of 296 officials had been influenced by Covid so far and many were repatriated from hospitals.
“This is another initiative in our part to reduce physical contact,” said a commissioner together.
Police despite reminding that use of this number, at first, will be limited to small crimes.
“For big crimes, our doors will always be open to the complainant,” said OC from North Kolkata.
Especially, it will be a task officer who will receive complaints on WhatsApp and then install the entry.
He will also notify senior officers about serious crimes.
All numbers will have 8100796 general as the initial seven digits.
The last three digits will show a certain division and finally certain police offices.

“We will issue a contact number at the gate and at a strategic point for the general public on Saturday afternoon,” said an officer at the Bhowanipore police station who had reported about 30 Covid cases in the past week.
Kolkata police have announced a number of steps to reduce physical interaction.
Lalbazar has stopped the Breathalyzer test and requested police traffic to return in the case of quotes in traffic than seizures.
Kuningan also asked the police not to go out of town for a small raid and ensure that there is a social distance in locking.
Barak has been divided into reducing crowding.
