Kolkata: artisans racing against time to complete idols

Kolkata: Idolmaker competes against time and bad weather to complete timely idols for shipping before expensive.
Most artists work for 12 to 14 hours a day to redeem all the lost time because showeres that often occur in the last two weeks and stay in front of the schedule to defeat the rainforce for this week.
Often heavy rain in September has not only resulted in manday waste but also encourages production costs for idol makers.
“We take all kinds of precautions to rain because we have deadlines to meet.
Puja organizers currently take birth before expensive so we have to be ready,” said Kartik Pal, Secretary Kumartuli Mristshilpi Sanskritik Samity.
“Most idol makers have shifted indoors and made their studio rain proof by plugging all leaks.
If the idol gets wet at this stage, it is impossible to dry on time and we will definitely miss the deadline,” he added.
Mahalaya is still more than a week but there is a rainforiment for almost two to three days this week.
However, which has not stopped the idol maker to work in the form and form of gods.
“I have rented a room in an idol student studio and will work there.
Otherwise I have to stop all work for the next few days when it rains,” said Sourabh Pal, another idol maker in Kumartuli.
Kumartuli did not have a waterlogg problem because the drainage system was good, but because most of the companies were very old, the roof leaked and the wall became moist.
Artistisas has used plastic and cover provided by the government to cover the roof.
Many craftsmen use the base fan and oven to dry idols so they can solve it on time.
“Last week I felt unconscious and couldn’t shift idols in the room.
I have to hold it with plastic for almost two days.
That means I can’t do it for two days, lagging behind my schedule,” said Bikash, another idol maker .
