Kolkata: A total of 72 people were arrested for allegedly disrupting the law and order during the election of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Sunday, police said.
One person was arrested for allegedly threw a bomb in the Seacdah area, where three voters were injured, including someone in serious condition, said a senior police officer.
“72 people have been captured so far because disrupting the law and order in the city where civilian elections are ongoing.
One person has been arrested in connection with throwing bombs.
Others involved in the incident have been identified and they will soon be arrested,” Commissioner with the police (headquarters) , Subhank Sinha Sarkar said.
The raw bomb was thrown in front of the Taki School at Ward Number 36, where three regional voters were injured.
A large police contingent was deployed in the area, and the State Election Commission had searched for a report from the police about this issue.
Sarkar said that four people had been arrested in connection with a fight between two contest candidates in Hare Street.
“Polling is held peacefully there now,” he said.
However, IPS officers rejected the report that a police officer was also injured.
