Kolkata: The authority of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun to clean up empty plots in Salt Lake where garbage piled up.
This is being carried out after instructions from the North 24-Pargana District Government to take steps for prevention of shared fever during the rainy season.
BMC Ward 31 Coordinator Supriyo Chakraborty has taken the drive in his ware consisting of AE, BE, CE, BF and CF blocks to clean all empty plots that stretched overlooked with garbage and weeds grow, the ground breeding for mosquitoes.
Some empty plots on the AE and BF block were cleaned in the last few days.
“We asked residents living nearby to maintain a plot,” Chakraborty said.
Residents have welcomed this step by civilian authority during the rainy season when water collects in this plot.
Similar drives in other parts of the city will also be held, BMC officials said.
The BMC authority has a shared inspection and Covid and Dengue inventory meeting with 24-parganas North DM last week.
Officials said all the measures of the prevention of dengue fever needed were being taken.
“Six months ago, around five Lakh Guppy Fish was released in the canal and more will be released.
Channels will also be dredged to prevent stagnant water accumulation.
Larvisides will be sprayed and the roof of the household will be examined by stagnant water,” said the BMC Administrator Board Chairman Krishna Chakraborty.
South Dum Dum’s authority has launched a scheme last week to use a speed boat in all four channels – Bagjola, Sonai, Udaypur and Cantonment – to spray Larviside and clean canal water.
“Speedboats are introduced about Local MLA instructions and Bratya Basu ministers.
This scheme will continue for the next six months as a step of dengue prevention,” said Boa Dum Dum Dum South Dum Demashis Banerjee.
