Kolkata: Some colleges and universities are arranged to reopen their hostels for students who live outside the city, take another step towards reopening the campus further and calling more students for offline classes.
Many institutes have issued a list of inventory allotment of accommodation in hostels, but students must “follow the tight Covid-19 security norms” when living in hostels.
Many universities demand a vaccine certificate when receiving entrance tickets to hostels while others ask parents to sign the form that the ward has been vaccinated for Covid and will follow all safety guidelines.
Students who have received tickets in various colleges and universities will be allowed to move to the hostel and when they are called for offline classes.
At Maulana Azad College, students have begun to move to the hostel.
This prerequisite is that they must be vaccinated and provide a declaration that they will follow all Covid safety guidelines recommended by universities.
“We have reopened the hostel in a gradual way by giving time on one batch to settle before calling on the next batch.
If the Covid situation remains safe, we might start calling more students to campus,” said Subhasi Dutta, Principal of Maulana Azad College.
Some colleges and universities are very careful in calling more students for offline classes because they must provide hostel accommodation that requires a thorough sanititation at Jadavpur University, the authorities distribute space in hostels to students from various different streams and years gradually.
“We have released a list for several schools and years and students can receive their respective entrance tickets as and when their classes are called to teach offline.
We do it gradually so that all safety guidelines can be followed,” said a university official.
The University has two health centers and ambulances along with doctors on campus all the time.
At Scottish Church College, students can start moving to hostels from this weekend.
The college has released a complete list of students who secured the room at the hostel a few days ago.
The college has formed Covid-19 cells and appoints doctors to attend the campus.
“We have treated social distance in the room.
Students are also advised to follow all Covid norms when inside the hostel,” said a college official.
