Kolkata: It looked like a scene from a crime thriller, when a bicycle thief was arrested by a sergeant after a pursuit of about eight minutes through one of the most crowded northern Kolkata stretches on Monday afternoon.
The pursuit – covering a distance of about 1.5 km – interesting considering the bicycle, lifted from under Belgachia bridge, has a GPS system that has told the owner about theft.
Sergeant Surojit Porel, from Shyambazar Traffic Guard, heard a call for help and decided to pursue a thief.
The accusation was identified as Safikul Laskar, a resident of Darapara at Park Circus, who was previously arrested for picking up a cell phone on the bus.
“Today at around 2:10 a.m., Porel served near Belgaachhia Crossing when he saw a motorcycle (belonging to a friend of the victim) chasing the others on the stage of Belgachhia.
