Kolkata: Covid Icus see increases in critical cases

Kolkata: Severe respiratory doctors and covid pneumonia have often among ICU patients in private hospitals in Kolkata in the past two weeks, encouraging doctors to suspect that even omicrons can trigger lower respiratory disease, especially in cases of patients who are ‘unresponsive ‘ vaccine.
Parts of elderly patients with comorbidity may not experience antibodies adequately, expose them to even worse diseases, they argue.
So far, covid induced by Omicron has been largely limited to the upper respiratory tract.
There may be three reasons behind the bursts for the past 10 days, said the Director of the King Dhar Cmri Pulmonology Hospital.
“First, the Delta residue case seems to cause severe Covid more often than they do in the second wave when it is the dominant tension.
Second, a small portion of the Omicron case has been severe because of the delta because of the mutation that almost destroyed the difference between the two.
Finally, those who It is still not destroyed or frozen in part to get a more severe disease, “he said.
The Clinical Research Director of Peerless Hospital Subhrojyoti Bhaumik said: “Global research has shown that Omicron can be severe in some cases.
Delta is still circulating and can affect the lower respiratory tract now, especially in the case of elderly patients with comorbidity.” He added That a fairly large part of senior citizens can remain vulnerable to Covid severe because they are not responsive to the vaccine.
“While there are severe infections because they choose to skip vaccines or only get one dose, there are more are fully vaccinated.
Chances are they don’t get adequate antibodies from vaccines Why do we need to do an antibody titer test to measure counts and find out whether the recipient Actually protected against viruses, “said Bhaumik.
Of the 35 patients in critical treatment at the RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, 11 had severe respiratory pressure.
“While the total number has decreased, part of critical care patients remains serious,” said Zonal R Venkatesh.
Woodlands has 11 patients in Covid ICU, most of them are elderly with comorbidity.
“All have respiratory complaints and in oxygen support,” said Rupali Basu, MD from the Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital.
Belle Vue Clinic has six patients in the Covid ICU which is three serious.
Typical symptoms in severe cases have high fever, low oxygen saturation and covid pneumonia.
“Most of them need oxygen support and non-invasive ventilation.
But parts that have severe comorbidities have been more affected than those who covid are the main disease,” Dhar said.
He quoted an example of two patients in the forties – without comorbidity – which came out of this week’s ventilation.
Institute of Medical Education & Research Professor Post-Postgraduate Dipendra Sarkar agreed.
However, he said there was a significant part of the patient suppressed immune and did not have adequate protection from the vaccine.
