Kolkata: The anti-rowdy section of the detective department has caught a group of four – including the former Kolkata police officer – who runs the “police recruitment center” in a hotel in Chandni Chowk and passed it as a DSP office from where they issued a letter of appointments fake meeting on behalf of Bengal police and Kolkata police.
The defendant even supplied Khaki Beret Cap and belt to pass the letters as original.
The gang had cheated several youth during the Covid RS 35 Lakh period.
The defendant has been identified as a Rabbi Murmu (40), Masud Rana (24), Subhro Nag Roy (44) and Paritosh Barman (50).
Gazole residents in Malda, Murmu have been identified as former Kolkata Constable police suspended in 2011 to pamper themselves in fraud.
Rana Hails from Ranitala in Murshidabad, Roy from Gaighata and Barman from Pingla in Midnapore.
“We ensure how this group was formed from the beginning,” said an officer.
Among the defendants, Rana has claimed to be the DSP board recruitment of West Bengal Police and moved to a car marked as “West Bengal Government”.
Barman acts as a linkman between prospective jobs and gangs, collecting Rs 6.5 lakh from each.
Around Rs 1.9 lakh cash, documents such as fake police ID cards on behalf of the shutter, the promise of fake meeting, hat and khaki belt confiscated from them, said CP (crime) Sharma Murlidhar.
Cheating cases were recorded at the Bowbazar police station on Thursday as soon as the defendant Nabbed based on complaints by one Samaresh Mahato (20), a resident of Salboni in West Midnapur.
“The defendant took the candidates to Kolkata to submit an appointment of their fake meeting.
Gang told the victims that they would be sent for training to Halihahar.
When the day passed and they were not asked to report there, the victims decided to approach the police,” Claims A source.
