Ludhiana: Sleuths investigating the encounter killings of gangster Jaipal Bhullar and his accomplice Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi Kharar at the sprawling Shukhobrishti housing complex in New Town Action Area III of Kolkata have come across more startling facts.
They found that fake Aadhaar and passport were used to rent the 1BHK flat and have even seized several identity cards including those of cops from Bharat Kumar of Sahnewal, a master forger arrested on Wednesday at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly providing logistic support to gangsters.
According to sources in Organised Crime Control Unit, Bharat came in contact with Jaipal through Facebook and police are investigating whether he used the fake IDs of cops.
They added that fake vehicle registration plates have also been seized from him.
A police officer who is part of the investigating team said that though Bharat is not a gangster, he was influenced by Jaipal.
He also used to arrange VIP numbers for his contacts, the officer added.
While Jaipal and Jassi had fled Punjab after killing ASIs Bhagwant Singh and Dalwinderjit Singh on May 15, when a three-member team of CIA had gone to Jagraon grain market following a tip off about liquor smuggling, their two other accomplices — Baljinder Singh Babbi of Mahla Khurd in Moga and Darshan Singh of Sahauli village in Ludhiana — were arrested by police on May 29.
SSP Ludhiana Charanjit Singh said they will bring Bharat on production warrant to question him in the murder case of police officers.
A Kharar court ordered seven-day police remand for Bharat on Thursday.
