Kolkata: When the entire country grappled with a pandemic Covid-19, Madhabi Sarkar Kolkata has started a bicycle trip awareness to protect the environment through water conservation and save trees.
With naked needs, Sarkar left on the long road from Chandigarh on Friday to the pedal crossing Simla-Manali-Leh and finally Ladakh spread the message ‘Save Trees Water’.
So what drives it to take a tour? “For the past year, I have seen, how the price of oxygen cylinders rises.
People die from the scarcity of oxygen in the hospital.
Consider the situation, people must be more careful about maintaining free environmental pollution.
For that they need to plant more trees.
And save the existing, “said Sarkar.
This is not his first tour.
Sarkar has traveled to Bhutan alone in 2019 for the same purpose.
Nature lover is also part of a tour to Kaziranga for ‘Save the One-Horned Rhinos’ Project.
This 32-year-old child is also a single mother and her nine-year-old son is his biggest strength.
“I have a wedding photography business but it’s just to help me and my child survive since my separation.
Cycling is my desire and my child is my biggest motivator.
I will leave it with his grandmother while on the way,” Sarkar added.
He told him because of his friends that he could get ready for a tour.
“This tour is partially financed itself.
The remaining funds have been sent by my friends.
The others have packed dry food for travel.
One of them makes Powerbank Mobile for me,” he said.
The road is not easy, but Sarkar is determined to conquer the landscape shifting.
“I brought a tent with me so I can save the hotel costs.
This is a difficult trip but I think I owe it to Mother Nature,” he added.
However, Sarkar was not sure of the length of his tour.
“I don’t want to limit yourself to a certain time frame.
On my return trip, I have a plan to travel through Jammu & Kashmir and Kedarnath.
I might use a cycle all the way back too,” he added.
