Kolkata: The police arrested the entire gang deceiving a 80-year-old man, Salt Lake resident, on Tuesday.
The con poses as retail top online company executives to make victims deposit RS 40,000 into an account, promise to send them several articles with big discounts as part of special sales for parents.
Police arrested five people – Priyanshu Sharma (21), Kartik Kumar (21), Rakesh Kumar (20), Deepak Kumar (25) and Manish Kumar Jha (25) – from three rental houses in the Regent area, Tollygunge and Bijoygh.
While Deepak is a Jharkhand resident, the other comes from Bihar.
Police said, interrogation showed the inspiration of the Drew gang from the Jamtara web series.
“People who were arrested desired in several similar cases in Bihar and Jharkhand,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar Komisarier.
