Kolkata: Five people – four of them from the family – received severe grilled injury in a gas cylinder explosion in the port area on Monday night.
Among the injured is a gas mechanic called by the family to repair the cylinder once they realize that the gas leaked from it.
The incident was reported from Ekalpore Lane at around 6:30 a.m.
Two women and a little girl were also hurt.
The police and firefighters said that the regional residents also helped them save injured family members.
The injured people were identified as Sultana Begam (48), Faizan Ahmed (21), Nafisa Begum (24), Mehrin Nisha (14) and Mechanics Proice Nandy.
Nandy’s injury is more serious than the others.
“Nandy was taken to SSKM by his relatives for treatment.
The room in question has been locked by forensic experts,” said DC (Port) Zafar Ajmal Kidwai.
