Kolkata: Kolkata has obtained the top position in the country’s district list for 2020, with the lowest level of violations that can be recognized, according to the newly released Crime Records National Crime Records (NCRB) report.
Bengal capital, with a score of 129.5, appeared above the list, which measures a violation that can be recognized by the Lakh, followed by Hyderabad (233) Mumbai (318.6) and Bengaluru (401.9).
The national average is 810.3.
NCRB has compared cities with other 18 who have more than two million populations.
This is the third consecutive time that the city has been shown as the safest (with a break in 2019, when the bureau claimed that records had reached them late from the country).
The city has taken the top position either in terms of the IPC case (crime borne by the Indian criminal code) – where it has a score of 109.9 – and the case listed under other state laws (SLL crime), where it is Score 19.6.
Kolkata has also achieved what many cities cannot be repeated – the IPC crime rate in 2020 has fallen from 139.5 to 109.9.
This is a progressive decline, with a score of 141.2 in 2017 and 159.6 in 2016.
Kolkata’s crime rate has been on the lower slide for the past seven years, with the total number of cases decreasing from 26,161 in 2014 to 18,277 in 2020.
The total number of IPC crimes has dropped from 17,324 in 2019 to 15,517.
The number of SLL cases saw an increase, from 2,314 in 2019 to 2,760 in 2020.
The numbers showed that the city had fated both in loading violent crime, registering only 53 cases of murder and 121 cases of efforts to kill, compared to cases 55 and 143 Reported in 2018.
As a comparison, Delhi registered 461 murder cases and 562 attempts of murder, while Mumbai registered 168 attempts of murder and 348.
Kolkata also saw 11 rape, once again fewer than 14 rape 2018 and 15 years 2017.
There are 160 cases Attack on women and 37 sexual harassment.
Instead, Delhi reported 942 cases of attack and 322 cases of sexual abuse.
Chennai, with 33 cases of attack and 10 cases of sexual violence, is the only better player among Metro cities in this size.
The only black spot remains a large number of “hurt cases” (crimes that cause pain injury).
City, again, topped the national figure with 4,513 cases.
However, this is still far less than 6,439 cases reported in 2018.
Other black marks on the Kolkata report card are that it remains in the list of only three cities – other than Delhi and Chennai – to record two acid attacks.
The total number of forgery cases (13) is only less than Delhi (32).
On a positive record, this city has reported 17 shots in connection with wildlife and environmental protection.
A top Lalbazar officer credits achievements to build “cutting-edge technology”, and increase and utilize all available resources.
