Kolkata: One kite, who was injured when a spoiled Chinese who was banned from being entangled in his neck near Marquis Street, was saved in a 90-minute operation involving the Kolkata police disaster management group on Tuesday afternoon.
Hydraulic stairs must be asked to save the kites from perch and then remove the sharp thread.
Sergeant Dipptimoy Ghosh from the South Traffic Guard, which is part of the Platform of animal lovers and birdyo birds, served near Jalan Park Street-Camac Crossing when several locals from Marquis Street contacted Helpline around 11:30 a.m.
They say kites perched on a building make a depressed call.
Sergeant rushed to that place but Ghosh failed to reach kites due to height.
“I then sought the help of Lalbazar Control Room and DMG,” said Ghosh.
He was previously involved in some such rescue as part of the Mukta Vihanga Bonyo project.
DMG asked the hydraulic staircase to save the kites that were injured from the top of a wake up because the DMG team arrived with equipment, several viewers gathered below to see rescue operations.
The police team decided not to rush to scare the bird further.
They slowly reached and carried birds that were injured down before the NGO helped bring it back.
The actual operation lasted about 15 minutes.
The bird was attended and allowed to fly around 3pm.
Ghosh said the last 1.5 years was very bad for birds.
“Our own NGOs have saved 200 birds hit by strings of kites.
The situation is very bad around the Puja Vishwakarma.
We have saved several other bird species with spoiled injuries such as owls, pigeons, parakeets and even some birds migrated,” he said .
