Kolkata: Metro to add 12 trains as footsteps jumping 50,000

Kolkata: Large Metro traffic during the past week has pushed operators to add 12 trains from Monday and start the service at 7:30 a.m., not 8am.
Ratification counting in the North-South corridor jumped from 1.2 lakh to 1.7 lakh only in seven days last week.
50,000 surge on foot since last Friday, when the metro continued operation after hiatus 61 days, and recorded 1,70,058 footsteps this Friday, July 23, encouraged the authorities to make changes.
On Saturday, Metro Railway has offered 104 special staff – for those who have to attend work – that it runs when the service is suspended during the second wave.
Last Friday, July 16, the operator began again with 192 trains and Rush Morning Rush triggered the Metro Railway to announce 208 services and reduced the frequency of rush hour 7 minutes to 6 minutes from July 19.
But there is no convenience in passenger loads.
“We can only increase the train to maintain distance.
The state has limited to 50% of commuters now.
Metro is currently a ferry much lower than the pre-pandemic daily passenger load of 6.5 lakh, so we can add more trains,” said A Metro official.
The Metro Pre-Pandemic Fleet is 288.
“Metro will run 220 services every day from Monday to Friday so that passengers can travel comfortably,” said a Metro statement on Saturday.
Of these, 150 will ply between Kavi Subhash and Dakshineswar.
The frequency of peak hours will be 6 minutes and the first train will leave the terminal station at 7:30 a.m.
