Kolkata: Kolkata recorded the highest rainfall in September in 13 years after the rain was unrelenting in the city of Metropolis and neighboring district since early Monday, because some areas were sinking and transportation services were paralyzed.
Indicates no Surcor, the Ministry of Meets predicts light to rain in all South Bengal Regency, with one or two heavy rain and goal spells, until Tuesday morning.
The weather office said Kolkata received 142 mm of rain in 24 hours to 8.30 in the morning, and more than 100 mm for a six-hour range from 1am to 7 in the morning.
Metropolis has recorded 174.4 mm rainfall on September 25, 2007.
The highway that drowned and the lowland area exacerbated the problem for passengers, who struggled to find public transportation in heavy rain and traffic on the first weekday day.
Drainage Corporation Pumping Station Kolkata Municipal recorded 136 mm rain in Dhapa, 115 mm in Kuniagot and 109 mm in Ballygunge overnight, an official said.
“Because of the movements of cyclone circulation from West Bengal in Bengal to West Bengal’s gangetics and strong moisture, heavy rainfall occurred in Kolkata and side by side with 24 pargana, howghr, hooghly and ancient,” regional met director gk das said.
The Monsun trough is also active in South Bengal, said an IMD official.
Another place that recorded heavy precipitation over a 24-hour period was canning (113.4 mm) and a diamond port (83.6 mm) in 24 South Pargana, and Dum Dum (95 mm) in the northern edge of Kolkata, meeting department data showed.
Salt Lake received a rain of 142.8 mm, he added.
