Kolkata: Schools see open classes

Kolkata: Move to air-conditioned classrooms, open classrooms now in consideration.
When the school prepares to call their students back to campus from November 16, a number of institutions in the city think of holding several classes in the open, considered safer than the closed environment in the Covid Times.
The reopening school after a long gap will require some changes to conventional teaching methods to make children re-connected with their teacher, many of them only see on the screen for the past 20 months.
Schools, such as La Martiniere for girls, St James’, inheritance schools, BDMI Middle School and Sushila Birla Girls, have planned outside sessions throughout the winter months.
The principals of these schools say among many lessons taught by Covid, which is about the need to be in open space as much as possible.
They want their students to mark the time of the classroom in the room with outdoor sunning.
“We cannot start classes in formal and stiff mode and hope children adapt automatically after months online learning.
We need to have a re-connection time and I’m working on the routine in such a way that the teacher can bring it out to the field, making them sitting In spaced circles and not only teaching but also chatting and melting ice, “they said.
Rupkatha Sarkar, Principal in La Martiniere for girls.
The principal said several classes of theory, such as history, English and second, who might not need a board immediately, can be taken outside the conventional classrooms.
“Children must enjoy returning to school and being outside with teachers will definitely help them bind better.
This will automatically promote health too,” said the Principal of Heritage Seema Sapru.
In some schools, such as BDMI, the chair has been arranged in the outdoor places chosen for students and teachers.
This is a windy zone, where children can sit and attend the theory lecture, said Vijaya Chowdhury’s Principal.
At St James’s school, holding classes in the field has become a favorite activity for several teachers and students like the session.
“When we brought back IX and our XI in January, we will have more than this.
X and XII will come directly to their exam and hence, they will not be free before January.
But we saw a lot of upscale when we started back , “said the principle of Ireland.
Even the hybrid class will not be a problem, said the school.
Computers can be placed in such a way that the teacher can show children on the screen, a piece of their school campus while taking class.
