Kolkata: New Town has gotten the first smart solar bench that leads ambient lights with views and sounds, 4G-enabled hot spots, USB charging ports, electronic charging sensors and humidity.
To run on solar energy, the bench has been installed as a prototype and will be arranged elsewhere in the new city if it was found feasible and successful.
The new chairman of Kolkata Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) Debashis Sen, who inaugurated the Sun bench on Wednesday said this is a prototype that has been developed by the company that at this time will act as proof of the concept.
“The NKDA team will see how prototypes work to see if more solar benches can be spread throughout the city,” he said.
The SMART solar bench will open for 24 hours for people to use for free.
People who want to rest can sit on a bench and spend time exploring the internet, using a Wi-Fi user ID and password mentioned in the side panel along with other features.
The bench has been made with metal fiber.
The LED panel has been fixed on the side panel that will produce solar power from sunlight.
The bench will turn on automatically when someone sits on it after dark.
There are also screenboards in the panel which will continue to mention the level of temperature and humidity from every time a day.
There are three points charging USB and two wireless charging bearings along with the charging point for the electronic cycle.
