Kolkata: The roof leaking leads to a new market flood

Kolkata: When it rained down on Thursday afternoon, the shop owner in the new market dived for umbrellas to take refuge.
While water seepage is not a new problem in the new market, what is the droplets of the roof on a few blocks in the inheritance market that almost 150 years have been exacerbated in the rainy season.
It not only has damaged items stored in the attic of several stores and plywood furniture, but also triggered fear of short circuit and fire with rain water seeping into the power line.
Even worse, engineers who carry out a thorough study of market structures for planning-cum-renovation plans alert that water will cause structural damage to the building and can cause some parts of collapse.
After the site inspection, the sources said the engineers discussed temporary mitigation options but said nothing could be done in a hurry because it could endanger the integrity of the building.
Resources in the KMC market department said illegal construction by parts of staff living in the roof have also increased the problem.
Cracks have appeared on the roof.
A few years ago, a child had sneaked through one gaping hole near the Rotunda Market Center.
“The roof drainage system has been damaged and choked because some unscientific interventions have occurred over the years.
It takes time to regulate something correctly,” said an engineer to Ti.
The buyer and shop owner had a terrible time on Wednesday and again on Thursday because the water flowed along the rooftop barrel safe.
The problem is further compounded by flowing water from disposal lines in parts.
The buyer looks carefully walking through the deep ankle in the hallway, alert to slippery ceramic floors.
Instead of anti-skid tiles, which can cause people to slip and fall in the market corridor a few years ago.
The problem is most acute in block D, F and G.
The Heritage of the Confectionery Shop Nahoum has a flow of water down the show that lines throughout the hallway.
“We have attached tarps to protect the store,” said Jagadish Chandra Haldar, who manages the 119-year-old shop.
In the Apparel Store, water streaming has damaged the interior decoration of the shop.
SS Hogg Association Traders President Ashok Gupta said the intense rain of the rainy season had aggravated the problem.
