Kolkata: After Bengal allows the cinema to reopen, city exhibitors have taken a careful approach to keeping covid numbers and availability of new content in mind.
However, the digital cinema distribution network, including Qube and UFO, has received requests from many cinemas outside of Kolkata to reopen with old releases.
The owner of the cinema Bardhaman Madhusudan Das was reopened on Saturday with Dev-Srabanti-Starrer 2010 ‘Shedin Dekha Hoyechilo’.
“The film was published in the Qube cinema.
So, I can play it,” said the watershed.
Arunava Das, Operations Manager, Qube, said about 10 theaters in the district will start operating from Sundays with old films.
“Rupkatha (Habra) will filter out ‘Tangra Blues’ (2021) and ‘Paran Jaliya Re’ (2009).
Purbasha (Maslandapur) has requested ‘Shesh Toke Shuru’ (2019) and Surendra (Ranaghat) want to filter ‘Ei Ami Renu’ (2021).
Sarama (Barasat) wants ‘Mon Mane Na’ (2008) while the prandung (Tehatta) wants to show ‘Romeo’ (2011), “he said.
Rajkamal Chourasia, Manager Meaning Cinema Pvt Ltd which is a regional dealer of the Cine UFO Mumbai network, said, “On Saturday, Bhawani (Cooch Behar) will filter ‘Mayurakshi’ (2014) and ‘Bindaas’ (2014).
New cinema (Siliguri) Will filter ‘Awara’ (2012) and the Hindi Dubbed movie titled ‘Vinash Kaal’ (2020).
“However, a single screen owner in Kolkata has not made a request like that.
Samsungnotnot too much new content may be there for all film space to reopen.
However, even if some do re-open, the right attention must be paid to follow all Covid norms.
Open the screen is a big step for the industry but we must be responsible and careful; Each uptick in the case will take us back to the one square.
Meanwhile, Director of Raj Chakraborty wondered if there might be a “political agenda” behind the decline of the momentum of several city exhibitors, who had campaigned again.
“They even appointed how the Government of Uttar Pradesh allows the cinema to reopen while Bengal spend time.
Our government supports Tollywood and I wonder why the reference will be given.
It will be dangerous for tollywood if some have tried to use this problem for political benefits,” He said.
Chakraborty refers to the circulation of messages that accuse Tollywood members who are members of Parliament and MLA because they do not recommend the cause of the opening of the cinema in Bengal.
“We do not accept this call.
There is a raging pandemic and only experts can decide.
However, I always continue this request to our CM.
Didi wants us to be patient because health problems become a concern.
Now orders out, manufacturers must be allowed to decide when Must let go of their content, “he added.
Immediately after the notification on Thursday, a producer called the famous director to discuss their contract which had mentioned the release of mandatory theater from their new Bengali film which had been sold to TV channels.
But, the director did not insist on the theater release.
He did not want to burden the producer with the cost of mold, publicity and the release of theater which would experience Rs 20 lakh when there was a slim chance for investment recovery.
“My theater is in a condition of running and ready to open as long as we get a suitable program to play.
But I can’t insist when a producer will release the film,” said the owner of Navina Navin Choukhani.
