Kolkata: With the aim towards filing poems, preserving scripts and rare editions and art promotes, the construction of the Kolkata International Foundation for literature and art culture (Kifalc) will begin by the end of this year.
At the meeting held on July 29, it was decided to start working to build a multidisciplinary art center for national and international cultural activities on three-biga plots in Mukundapur provided to the Foundation by the Rental Government Government.
The death of the poet Shankha Ghosh, who is the foundation chairman, also requires the reconstitution of his council.
While Jogen Chowdhury artists are the new chairman of the Foundation, the Prabal Writer Kumar Basu and Anthropologist Shyamal Chakrabarty will function as deputy chairman.
MiHir Chakraborty mathematician will be the Secretary General.
The former principal of the College of Art and Craft Dipali Bhattacharya, now a trustee, Kiflac said, was formed in 2003.
The author Sunil Gangopadhyay was his first chairman with the poet Shankha Ghosh and Painter Ganesh Haloi as Deputy Chairperson.
While Jogen Choudhury is Managing Guardian Mandate, Basu is a settlement and secretary of trust.
“We want to build an apolitical platform that will encourage freedom of expression,” he said.
For various reasons, building construction work does not start for almost 18 years.
The plan for the center was revived at the end of July.
“It takes time to get land and approval of the planning commission for funding,” said Basu.
According to Bhattacharya, around 250 paintings and sculptures contributed by all major Indian artists including KG Subramanian and Paresh MAITE are there with trust.
“Once we have a center, I want to give all this for preservation.
We relate to the author’s family in mind for the preservation of the script,” said Basu.
