Kolkata: A 20-year-old woman, who was two months pregnant, allegedly committed suicide at Tollygunge Road Residence on Thursday after being reportedly harassed by her in-laws.
The deceased – Puja Chanda – has scored a suicide note in the palm of his left hand, allegating that Sheela her mother-in-law was responsible for her death.
Police said Puja married Sanjoy Chandra, who owned a mobile shop in the Tollygunge area, almost a year ago.
On Thursday at around 7:50 p.m., Puja was found hanging in his room.
“Suicide notes are usually written by the deceased on paper or easily accessible things such as notebooks, walls or mirrors.
Although writing can be found in the deceased’s body, suicide notes in a structured manner written in the palm of the hand have not been reported in the forensic literature,” said A forensic expert.
Sanjoy and Sheela were arrested.
The police reportedly had evidence that the duo used to put pressure on the puja for more expensive.
“The case has been listed under the 304B IPC section against Sanjoy and Sheela,” said DC (South) Akash Magharia.
