K’Taka: 21% of government schools lack handwash facilities

The cleanliness protocol has become the key to limiting the spread of Covid-19, but a study has revealed that one in five government schools in Karnataka does not have hand laundering facilities.
Frequently and thorough hand washing, the use of masks and social blasphemy is the basic requirement of behavior that is in accordance with Covid, and they will focus if and when the government considers restarting learning on campus.
The 2019-20 report from the Integrated District Information System for education has revealed that of 49,834 government schools in the state, 39,110 has hand washing facilities.
That means around 21 percent of schools do not have this basic convenience.
About 12 percent of schools assisted by the government and 11 percent of schools without private assistance also do not have it, according to the report.
“This survey is almost two years old, but many schools still lack handwash facilities because this is not a priority problem for years.
Prepare it is not easy because some schools do not have a water connection or overhead tank,” said an official of the Ministry of Education.
Commissioner DPI Anbu Kumar said all schools will get facilities, and the work of installing taps and providing water supply has been going on.
“In some schools, the principal ensures the construction of washing facilities in the dawn kitchen.
But on many others, this convenience is not there,” said Chandrashekar Nugi, Secretary General of the Government Teacher Association.
