K’Taka: ‘Covid Reinfection can surge in October-Nov

Bengaluru: The state government can monitor infected people during the peak of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in April and May, because some experts predict a reinfection wave in October-November.
Experts say antibodies produced in people who suffer from Covid can decrease after six months, and these people can return vulnerable to the virus.
They also estimate 10% of breakthrough infections – namely infection among people who are fully inoculated.
They said the government had to launch a drive to give third dose in November.
“It is important to maintain a close watch in the situation until November mainly because of the possibility of a surge in reinfection,” said Dr.
MK Sudarshan, Chairman, Covid-19 State Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
“While we begged people to be careful and adhere to Covid-19 safety norms, we want the government to record this and ensure adequate steps.” About 16 lakh people contracted an infection between April 1 and May 31 in the state, where 7.2 lakh cases were in Bengaluru.
This population piece is likely to be exposed to the second infection unless the government takes precautions.
Experts say the problem of this problem is as important as ensuring the readiness for the third Covid-19 wave which is possible in October-November.
While the government was under pressure to relax the sidewalk such as the curfew after the Chaturthi Ganesh Festival, Dr.
Sudarshan said people should not lower their guards until October-November, when a clear picture of the next pandemic phase will appear.
However, the silver layer in the case of a reinfection or breakthrough infection, the experts say, is that the patient will not sign a severe form of illness and there will be a little need for inpatient care.
“The patient will only get mild symptoms if it is a case of reinfection or breakthrough infection,” said epidemiology from Jacob John.
“The government can prevent it by giving the third dose and monitor those who have been infected.” Dr.
John said that giving a third dose would not be a challenge because the demand for vaccine doses would decrease in November-December because the entire target population was expected to be inoculated with at least one dose at that time.
“With the current inventory and a slight increase in production, the government can easily ensure the continuation of drive vaccination and cover all people with the third dose,” said Dr.
John.
On Thursday, after the meeting of experts and officials organized by the Head of Minister of Bumavaraj Bommai, the government extended the restrictions that existed until the month, Post Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations.
Officials said the government had chosen to wait and watch until there was a clear signal from the center of lifting restrictions and the third dose.
“Strict vigilance will continue,” said KV Trilok Chandra, Health Commissioner.
“We don’t have instructions both from the ICMR center in steps like the third dose.
We must see how the pan in October-November and take steps based on the situation that appears.”
