K’taka: Fishermen tortured for phone theft, 6 held

Mangaluru: Southern Mangaloru police on Wednesday arrested six fishermen from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly hanging an inverted fisherman from the pulley hook and struggling.
The brutal attack on Vaila Sheenu, 32, from the Prakasam district was carried out on a fishing boat at the old port (Dakke) after they suspected he stole two cellphones.
Arrest is a condur Polaiiah, 23, Avul Raj Kumar, 26, Karapingara Ravi, 27, Pralayakaveri Govindaiah, 47 (all from Nellore District) and Katingari Manohar, 21, Votu Kori Jalaiiah, 30 (all from the Prakasam district).
Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said Sheenu was to join the defendant on a fishing trip on the John Shailesh-2 ship on December 16.
The night before the men met dinner.
The next morning, realizing that two cellphones were lost, they suspected Sheenu stole them.
