K’Taka GP launches a campaign to promote reading on children

Mangaluru: Kilpady Gram Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada has launched a unique campaign to encourage students to develop reading habits, which have taken back seats, especially with online classes.
As a first step, the ‘Odemba Belinda’ program was held recently, where 40 students from primary to PU were introduced to read between 6pm until 9pm.
Kilpady Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) Poornima told Stoi, “During our interaction and field visit, we noticed that reading habits other than textbooks have decreased dramatically among children.

This program attracts inspiration from the ‘Oduva Belinda’ program, where rural development and Panchayat Raj Department revives the library at Gram Panchayats.

We have invited experts from all people who highlight the importance of reading books, “he said.
Poornima said the program was also synchronized with the program Dakshina Kannada Zilla Pancayat ‘Pustaka Grama’.
“Below, the ‘Goodu Library’ or book stands will be installed in various public places including the Post Office, Panchayat Gram Office, Parks, Bus and Market Parts Every Gram Panchayat.
While the GP librarian will monitor this program, as a subsequary step, we too Will put up this stand in various places, “he said.
“We intend to keep at least 50 books stands for all age groups.
We will conduct book review and analysis competition for school and college students on November 14.
Students who are interested must submit their entries in the Gram Panchayat office with the name of the book they want to review , “he added.
