K’Taka: ICMR-NITM develops herbal solutions for COV

Beleagavi: The National Institute of Traditional Medical Council of India for Medical Research (ICMR-NITM) in Batalagavi works on herbal solutions for Covid-19.
The results of two studies have been reviewed by peer-reviewed and published in international journals.
In a bioinformatics study, scientists found that three formulations consisting of eight plants prevented viruses from entering humans.
In in-vitro studies, they check whether the formulation can prevent interaction between human hosts and viral proteins.
The researchers have planned three more studies before arriving at each conclusion.
The formulation was named NITM-41, 42 and 43 and scientists initially studied 16 plants.
“The team first studied plants using contemporary, traditional and archived nitm literature.
Then, three formulations of eight plants are completed.
In the Invitro study, the formulation shows promising results,” said a scientist who worked on this project.
The results are published in journals such as borders in medicine, journal biomolecular structures and dynamics, research phytotherapy and phytomedicine.
Now, scientists must produce non-pseudo non-infection viruses to conduct further research.
They also studied this formulation on hamsters with the help of Delhi-based scientists Amit Awasthi.
Finally, the formulation must be studied in the active virus model, where BSL-3 facilities are needed.
Batawayavi does not have such facilities.
When contacted, the Director of the ICMR-Nitm Debprasad Chatttopadhyay said that further details will be distributed after the research is complete.
