K’Taka: Law to protect the temple on public land kicks

MySuru: The Karnataka government has told the Law of the Karnataka Religious Structure (Protection), 2021, which tries to save the temple built in public places from demolition.
New laws only protect illegal structures in public land and will not allow new religious structures or construction in public places without permission.
However, the law will not protect the structure if the case is delayed in court.
The move came one and a half months after mysuru district government began the demolition of the temple that appeared in public land without authorization.

According to the State Gazette notification, this law offers protection to places of worship owned by all communities, including temples, churches, mosques and Gurudwaras, built on public land ‘without legal authority’.
It is said that district administration can enable religious activities in such protected structures subject to habits, laws, use and other conditions such as those that can be determined by the state government.
Krishnaraja Mla Sa Ramadas said the law needed “more comprehensive” and added that it could enable government institutions to control private temples built in public places.
