BENGALURU: It has been 17 days since main minister BS Yediyurappa declared the very first aid package for all those whose livelihood was struck by the Covid-induced lockdown however disbursement of cash support is yet to begin.

On May 19, Yeddyurappa declared Rs 3,000 cash support each to autorickshaw, taxi, maxicab motorists and construction workers and Rs 2,000 each to washermen, barbers, porters, domestic aids and many others.

Overall, 23.8 lakh beneficiaries were also targeted.
Officials blame the delay to set of information of inheritance and confirmation.
“Since beneficiary amounts are at lakhs, set of the Aadhaar amounts, bank information and confirming them requires time,” stated a senior labor division official.
However, labor organisations blame the authorities for requesting beneficiaries to use though it has information of a substantial amount of beneficiaries.
“For instance, the government collected statistics of 1.2 lakh automobile and taxi drivers annually when a similar bundle was declared.
In the same way, information of approximately 24 lakh construction employees is easily available with the nation’s construction employees welfare board.

Disbursement to these will begin from Monday,” said an official of the section.
An official of this Karnataka State Unorganised Workers Welfare Board stated the board has information of 1.2 lakh barbers and washermen and they’ll get money support by the next week.
