K’taka : Panel to examine government tenders above Rs 50cr

BENGALURU: To bring transparency and to avoid irregularities in the tender work of the government, the Karnataka government has decided to tender the subject of the cost of Rs 50 crore and above for oversight by an independent committee headed by a retired judge of the high court.
State cabinet took the decision in this regard at a meeting on Monday.
In addition to the retired high court judge, the committee will have two members with expertise in the financial and technical fields.
“All the tender cost Rs 50 crore and above will go before the committee and they should be cleared within 15 days,” said the state law and parliamentary affairs minister JC Madhuswamy.
sand mining policy gets approvalThe government has set up two such committees decided to expedite the review process.
Currently, each department has its own panel to scrutinize tenders.
But the charges are too high budget, tweaked in qualifying bidders and take work deemed necessary has put a question mark on the functioning of the committee.
“The new system will address all these issues,” said Madhuswamy.
Cabinet cleared a sandmining policy, which seeks to empower gram and taluk panchayat to dispose of sand mined in their jurisdiction.
Under the policy, gram and taluk panchayat could sell sand taken from rivers and lakes at Rs 300 per tonne.
Similarly, Mysore Mines and Minerals and Hatti Gold Mines has been empowered to extract sand from the river bottom and sell at the southern and northern regions of Karnataka, respectively.
The sand is extracted from the river will be priced at Rs 700 per tonne.
Help initiative will financially doctor as 25% of the royalties will go to them.
