K’taka registered objections to the project that connects the TN River

Bengaluru: Karnataka on Wednesday officially registered the opposition to the Tamil Nadu River interlinking project, which tried to use surplus water from Cauvery Basin, and urged the center to intervene.
The Chairman of the Minister of Bumavaraj Bommai discussed this issue with the Union Jal Minister Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi, claiming the project did not have the approval needed.
“I have told the Union minister that what Tamil Nadu did was not acceptable.
The previous regime there announced this project during the election.
When restrictions were used in Karnataka on Mekedatu, it was unfair to allow Tamil Nadu to take the project.
It’s like injustice Karnataka, “Bommai said to reporters after the meeting.
He added: “Shekhawat has asked us to register our concern in writing, and the center will then take the necessary actions according to the law.” Bommai plans to meet Shekhawat again in a few days with a specific proposal related to the Mahadayi Drinking Water Project.
The Karnataka Government seeks financial assistance for this project under the Mission of Jal Jeevan Center Center and National Perspective Plan.
Bommai said that Shekhawat had responded positively.
In the proposed Balancing Reservoir, the main minister said that the Supreme Court has allocated water to Bengalaru and the project has been planned to use this share.
He added that it would not endanger Tamil Nadu’s interest.
Bommai urged Shekhawat to support Karnataka’s efforts to resolve watersharing disputes with other countries.
On Thursday, Bommai will hold a meeting with the Karnataka Law Team, which is headed by Advocate General Prabhuling Navadgi, to discuss strategies to overcome disputes using Cauvery, Mahadayi and Krishna Rivers.
Earlier on Wednesday, Bommai met with Agriculture Minister Union Narendra Singh Tomar and invited him to become a major guest on the September 5 event, where the scholarship would be given to farmers’ children.
He also tended to meet with the National President of BJP JP Nadda on Thursday to discuss party issues such as complaints of several cabinet members were not happy with their portfolio and delayed nod to fill the four beds left.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture Union has approved the procurement of Green and Black Gram in Karnataka under the price support scheme for Kharif Season 2021-22.
The maximum amount of 30,000 grams of gram and 10,000 mt black gram has been approved.
The process will remain for a period of 90 days from the date it was decided by the Karnataka Government.
