Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Wednesday decided to suspend the towing vehicle from the parking zone in Bengaluru until it appeared with the revised policy.
It followed public protests for alleged abuse of riders riders by vehicle towing personnel.
Interior Minister Araga Jnanendra announced a decision after a meeting with DGP Praveen Sood, Commissioner of the Bengaluru City Police Kamal Pan, and the Joint Commissioner (Traffic) BR Ravikantegowda on Wednesday.
“To ensure a smooth traffic movement in Bengaluru, we have decided to develop a simplified and friendly policy management policy.
In the next 15 days.
Until then, we have decided to stop the towing vehicle.
However, the traffic police only Will deal with vehicles parked in the middle of the parking area, “said Interior Minister Araga Jnanendra.
Traffic police received criticism for the past few weeks for allegedly harassing motorists on behalf of enforcing traffic rules and pulling vehicles without the following guidance.
The criticism turned into anger after two video appeared: one showed a bicycle owner who ran behind the crane pleading for releasing the vehicle; And the other shows breast milk persecuting a woman over the problem of pulling.
People are also angry with traffic police sticking to more advantages to checking vehicles and collecting fines rather than managing traffic.
Until August 31, 2021, the government had collected Rs 176 Crore on a fine from motorists for traffic violations, contributed by Bengaluru Rs 90 Crore.
Many MLA was said to have warned the government about harassment caused by motorists and how it harmed the party in the upcoming BBMP elections.
The meeting discussed the large penalties collected for violations of traffic rules, and the Minister of Home Affairs emphasized the need to cut the penalty.
However, the meeting decided to make a call after consulting the Chair of the Minister of Basavaraj Bommai.
After the meeting, the Minister of Home Affairs and officials met Bommai and told him about the results of their meetings.
