Bengaluru: Out of a total of 692 specialist doctors recruited by the government in June, only 345 reported worked, while the other 50% or 347 had moved away from joining services.
June 16 is the last date to report to work.
692 is one of the total 1,740 medical professionals chosen to fill the government’s post this year.
As many as 1,178 were reported to work, while 545 (31%) had moved away.
The Health Office authority said the aim was to recruit pediatrics and anesthesia experts for all government and district government hospitals, in addition to filling out empty posts ahead of the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19 infection.
Of the 1,740 posts raised by medical practitioners, 1,048 are general assignment medical officers (GDMO) with MBBS qualifications, and 692 specialists.
Among GDMOS, a total of 850 have joined work, while 198 has not reported so far.
From those who have not joined, 52 have tried to join later.
Only 85 of the 153 designated pediatrics were reported to work (including five looking for extensions), while 68 did not join the service.
Of the selected 145 obstetricians and gynecologists, 75 joined, while from 142 chosen anesthesia, only 70 appeared to work.
Of the 17 radiologists chosen, only six reported so far.

A senior doctor remembers: “MBBS graduates posted as a general task medical officer will be paid no less than Rs 93,000 per month, while a specialist will get Rs 1.2 lakh per month.
Some of us join the service three decades ago with RS salaries 4,000.
“While the numbers looked gloomy, officials said the responses were far better this year and would help increase the community health delivery system.
Manjunath Swamy, Chief Administration of officials, the Ministry of Health, said the election in previous recruitment was only 35%.
“We began the process on October 2020 and the temporary list came out on April 2021.
June 16 was the last date to report to work,” Swamy said.
He said that as far as possible, the department had tried to post doctors close to their residence.
“There are still vacancies in some North Carnataka districts like Yadgir,” he said.
Swamy said this department has a list of additional candidates who have registered for the post and they will now be offered posting.
“Nearly 50% of specialists we recruit have worked for the past two months.
We will fill the rest of the vacancies from the additional list,” Swamy said.
The source said the problem was with specialist possians.
“This is not new and has become a trend since the department tried to make a specialist working based on a contract.
Many choose to work in cities such as Bengaluru, MySuru and Mangaloru where almost no vacancy left,” they said.
They said the place posted the most important for specialists because most have family.
Sudden changes in the workplace, far from the preferred cities, forcing these doctors not to choose government work.
One of the rider appointed for this work is a penalty to stop before completing a certain period.
GDMos who stopped within six months joined must have a cough of RS 5 Lakh’s penalty, while the punishment for a specialist was Rs 10 Lakh.
