K’Taka: UG students may get Kannada policy assistance

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government is likely to relax its stand that all degree students must study four Kannada semesters from the upcoming academic year.
Students who have not studied languages ​​at school must learn Kannada for only two semesters, instead.
According to sources, students from states and other countries must study Kannada for two semesters.
After two semesters, they can choose other languages ​​for the next two semesters.
Students who have studied Kannada at school must pursue four semesters.
However, the government has not issued orders for this effect, officials said.

“Students who have not studied the Cananda as a language so far will learn it for two semesters.
We want to make all students study Kannada,” he said.
To date, only students engineering and medical colleges (under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences) are studying Kannada as a mandatory subject.
It was not followed for other undergraduate courses.
In accordance with the national education policy is being implemented from 2021-22 for first year’s degree courses, students must study Kannada for four semesters, regardless of other languages ​​of college offers.
Kannada in each semester has three credits.
Universities with a large number of non-Kannadiga students say it is unfair to expect them to learn languages ​​for four semesters.
They expressed concern that students might avoid Karnataka universities.
The Ministry of India and other foreign languages ​​in college are worried about their future because students tend to take English and Kannada.
“For students who have not studied Kannada anytime or from states and other countries, it will be difficult to learn languages ​​for too long at this age.
For other semesters, they can choose any language,” said an official.
College says it will relieve students and add them to wait for an official order before offering comments.
Thirty-five subcomposes compose the model syllabus for each subject tend to hand it on Monday and Tuesday.
An autonomous university and college can adopt this syllabus and change it to their needs.
