K’Taka: Villagers Cross Streaming on Arecanut Boards

Karwar: Salkod people in Honnavar Taluk have demanded bridges that will be built in all streams that separate their village from the rest of the taluk.
The villagers have used Boles Arecanut to cross the river, which is risky during the rainy season.
Facing a threat to life during the rainy season.
There is always fear to violate this emergency bridge when three or more simultaneously walk on it.
There are several examples of people who fall from the bridge and suffering injury.
This is the only route that connects Salkod with surrounding villages such as Angadi, Ganageri, and Kavalakki.
A decade ago, RS 1 Crore was approved for the bridge in this village.
The contractor has built several pillars in the middle of the school.
However, for unknown reasons, the work stopped halfway and whatever small built also collapsed, said the villagers.
During the rainy season, parents must help children cross the bridge to go to school.
Older people have no choice but to sit at home even during health emergencies.
Chandrashkhar rose, a villager, said that politicians visited the village during the election and never returned after they were elected.
“We have decided to boycott the Taluk Panchayat and the upcoming ZP selection,” he said.
President Salkod Gram Panchayat Rajani rose to say that efforts to resolve problems and requests have been carried out to MLA local to provide grant sanctions to build bridges.
