Rajkot: Arid Kutch Regency will soon get irrigation water.
The Gujarat government on Tuesday approved a work order worth RS 4369 Crore in Phase 1 to create infrastructure to provide Narmada water for several Talukas Kutch.
The state government in a statement said that the 337 km long pipe will be placed for this project.
This pipe will give water to 38 Kutch irrigation schemes.
According to the government, after completing this work 77 villages from six talukas including Mungra, Rapar, Anjar, Mandvi, Bhuj and Nakhatrana will get water for irrigation.
The 81,000 hectare agricultural area will be borne under irrigation.
The farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh recently protested in all Talukas Kutch with requests to provide Narmada water for irrigation.
The farmers in Kutch depend on the monsoon to farm and they can only take one plant in a year.
After the availability of irrigation water, farmers will be able to take two to three plants in a year.
