Rajkot: Around 4,000 farmers in nine Talukas Kutch held protests at the local Mamlatdar office who demanded the provision of Narmada water for agricultural use.
Because of irrigation water’s noity, they were forced to take only one plant in a year, claiming farmers.
The farmers hold protests under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh.
Air Narmada is provided for drinking purposes at Kutch Bhachau and Rapar.
A farmer leader Anjar Taluka Radhu Ahir said: “We can only take one plant in a year.
If we get Narmada water for irrigation we can take two to three plants.
The government has promised to fill the water body across KUTP with Air Narmada.
If the promise Fulfilled then the district water table will increase and we will get ground water easily for irrigation.
“The arid Kutch Land is known for Kreshen Mango and Dragon fruit which requires a lot of water.
The farmers submitted a memorandum for all Mamlatdar which stated that because the surface of the ground reached 500-700 feet, it became difficult to get water for irrigation.
Farmers also demanded to be given enough fertilizer.
