Nagpur: Squad Detection Disorders of Nagpur Municipal Corporation Disorders slapped the fine of RS1 Lakh in SRL, one of the leading pathological laboratories in the city, for non-scientific bio-medical disposal.
Introduction Investigations revealed that the laboratory had become famous for removing bio-medical waste produced in the lab and removing the same in public places.
This is a second time in a year that the lab, located in Bazar Road Temple in Sitabuldi, was fined for the same violation.
In March 2021, the NDS team had applied the same average plan in the laboratory to dispose of bio-medical waste in public places.
“Bio-medical disposal is not strict on the rules of managing bio-medical waste, 2016.
So, the NDS Dharampeth Zone team restored RS1 Lakh’s fine from Dr.
Suvarna Kawade from the laboratory,” said NDS Commander Virsen Tambe.
Acting on the complaint submitted by the local population, the NDS team put a trap on Tuesday and arrested a man from the pathology lab that waste bio-medical waste in side by side.
In accordance with the NMC (medical) health department, there are around 651 hospitals, 818 OPD clinics and 193 pathological laboratories in the city.
With the intention of removing bio-medical waste scientifically, the NMC has involved the Super Hygienis (SHDC) disposal company, which conducts the work of collection and disposal of bio-medical waste.
It collects RS732 per month from each pathology laboratory while the cost of the hospital is collected by Rs273.79 per bed per month.
Representatives from SHDC claim that they regularly collect bio-medical waste produced by the laboratory.
Even though the door-to-door collection system is in place, the laboratory is openly bio-medical waste.
In this financial year, so far the NDS team has sentenced 40 institutions including hospitals, clinics and pathology laboratories to dispose of unwavishing bio-medical waste and recover to RS6.16 lakh tones.
