Gurgaon: To mark the seven months’ completion of their agitation against the three contentious agricultural laws, the farmers in the state are gearing up to lend support to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s (SKM) call for a nationwide protest on Saturday.
Called ‘kheti bachao, loktantra bachao’, the protest aims at roping in farm labourers, women, and trade unions to intensify the agitation and infuse new energy into the movement.
In Gurgaon, members of SKM, All India Kisan Sabha and other farmer outfits as well as opposition parties will take out marches to drum up support for the movement.
With the aim to infuse the movement with vigor and steam, they will stage protests across the city and submit a memorandum addressed to the governor of Haryana.
Members of the SKM and Bhartiya Kisan Union claim that June 26 will not only mark the completion of seven months of their protest, but also will coincide with the 46th anniversary of the national emergency.
Inderjit Singh, vice-president of the Haryana unit of All India Kisan Sabha, said, “The BJP that projects itself as the victim of the national emergency has, in fact, pushed the country towards an undeclared emergency.
It has dealt with the farmers’ movement against the three black laws with brutality.
The protest on June 26 will be symbolic and aim to protect democracy.” On June 26, farm bodies will also step up their demands to release the pending tubewell connections that were sanctioned in 2014.
