New Delhi: The recent creation of the Seven Pool Acre in Dwarka by the Delhi Government using water treated from Papping waste Treatment Plant (STP) may have opened the way to build four waterbodies again, which are planned to be completed in less than a year.
, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will use the water treated to make two waterbodies again in Pappanan STP in Sector 16, one in a Dwarka water treatment plant and the other in Stp Najafgarh.
All projects will take advantage of situ steps, such as aeration, floating wetlands and ozonation to remove excess nutrients.
Dwarka has seen several resident-oriented efforts in recent years to revive Waterbodies, which have resulted in rejuvenating ponds and lakes in sectors 5, 20, 23 and 24.
The focus is now on two waterbodies in sector 8 and 25.
A DJB official said the waterbody In sector 16, which was made in March, has resulted in recharging two million gallons of water every day and the ground water level increased by 0.5 meters.
The measurement of a 400 meter ground water table from the lake also shows a rate of recharging 30 centimeters per day.
Under the “City of Lakes” project, 155 Waterbodies will be made or revived.
The first phase will be completed in June.
Phase-II will be completed on the 2022 and phase-III in December 2022.
A official said while there were two STPs in Papping, they would use STP Phase-II because it was designed to remove nutrients.
The locals who have revived waterbodi in Dwarka, meanwhile, have gone for a more traditional approach by diverting excess water from storm waterways and increasing the catchment area nearby.
Plants have been used to absorb excess nitrate and phosphate.
Diwan Singh, an activist, worked with several locals and the Sukh Dukh Group to Tanghi to revive Waterbodi in sectors 20 and 23 and, recently, Siras Dhool Sector 24.
Singh said they opposed using STP water, adding that waterbodi Restables will be able to defend themselves throughout the year in a natural way.
“Dwarka has adequate storm waterways.
If they are only cleaned and diverted to depression, water can be easily revived or created,” he said.
The group also works to revive water in sectors 5, which is now guarded by Delhi development authorities.
Singh said two waterbodes again, in sectors 8 and 25, were needed and can be rejuvenated in the future.
“The government can see this.
What is in Sector 8 has dried up completely.
The effort to create more waterbodies will help Dwarka and ground water tables return to normal again,” he added.
